Pelé’s professional career at Santos FC lasted from 1956 to 1974. He scored 643 goals in 659 games for the club, making him Santos’ all-time top scorer. During his tenure, he led Santos to two Copa Libertadores titles (1962, 1963) and two Intercontinental Cups (1962, 1963). In 1975, he joined the New York Cosmos, scoring 37 goals in 64 appearances before retiring in 1977. Pelé is credited with popularizing the phrase “The Beautiful Game”.
