Unione Calcio Sampdoria was officially founded in 1946 following the merger of two Genoese clubs, Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria. The birth of the club marked a new chapter in Italian football, creating a team that brought together the identities and traditions of both predecessors. From the onset, Sampdoria had a mission to establish itself as a competitive force in Serie A.

The 1990s heralded the golden era of Sampdoria. Under the presidency of Paolo Mantovani, the club reached its zenith in 1991, winning its first and only Serie A title. That same year, Sampdoria showcased its prowess in European football by reaching the finals of the European Cup, now known as the UEFA Champions League, only to be outplayed by Barcelona. This period introduced a legacy of success, with remarkable players like Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini etching their names in the annals of the club’s history.
